now christmas day tradition underway in san francisco. volunteers are hard at work to make sure the less fortunate have a warm meal today. kira klapper joins us live from glide memorial church. good morning, merry christmas. >> reporter: good morning, merry christmas to you eric. the annual glide christmas meal is less than an hour away. it will be served 7 a.m., 5,000 meals will be served. volunteers are already here to prepare, listen to this savory mouth-watering selection, ham and eggs, biscuits, oranges, grits and coffee. at 9:00, turkey, ham, sweet potatoes and mixed vegetables. 5,000 meals, 650 volunteers will be here throughout the day. we spoke to one volunteer, one man who used to be on the receiving end of the generosity of glide. >> i was a street person a long time ago and i want to give back. >> reporter: what does your morning consist of here? >> i am here most seven days a week, different duties, clean-up. also prepping when necessary. on special days like this, it is different. you get ready to help others and do things, kind of keep things going. >> reporter: g

in the hospital for the next couple of days. >>> on the scene of developing news in san francisco this morning, cbs 5 reporter cate caugiran is in the excelsior district where a suspicious fire is under investigation. >>> reporter: firefighters are calling it suspicious because of how quickly the flames spread. you can see now crews are still here. we heard reports that residents did admit to having an illegal marijuana grow operation but an arson team will be investigating the cause of this fire. two people were taken to the hospital for nonlife- threatening injuries. three residents are now homeless as a result of this fire. it started around 1:00 this morning at a home near athens and peru avenue. it quickly escalated and firefighters say they had to work fast to keep it from spreading. >> when we got here, the entire house was on fire. we were able to contain that and control it but the gas line also ruptured on us at the shutoff. so we were unable to shut it off. we had to call pg&e who brought in heavy equipment. >> reporter: pg&e crews are out here because of the gas rupture that the fi

francisco this morning. three buildings at 20-third and capp streets in the mission district of san francisco were heavily damaged. the fire department says it started just after 9-30. some 35 people are displaced. including two children. there were no injuries. but all three buildings received hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of damage. the people who live in the buildings were allowed inside shortly after the fire was out. >> people were able to salvage their items and get some of their personal belongings. it is a difficult time of year. >> i'm glad nobody was injured, it is just a material loss. happy new year to everybodyto grab some of their the fire department says it has narrowed down where the fire started. at this point, investigators say the fire does not look suspicious. but the cause is still under >> dozens held candles and sang songs tonight. in memory of a 22-year old shot and killed by the walnut creek police earlier this week. kron four's philippe djegal was there. he spoke to family and friends still in disbelief. devastated by the loss just before the start

anywhere else. we have two fetish fares in san francisco. there are only three other cities in the world that do that. new york, toronto, and berlin. i have been to all three and they are not nearly the same size as well we produced, or nearly as diverse. what we are always thinking about is what we are offering people that is so quintessentially san francisco that we get -- it cannot be gotten anywhere else. we are also told the switching of the entertainment this year. we have dance areas where the slides used to be. i think that for us it is about making sure that people, even if they came to san francisco in particular five years ago, that they are not experiencing the fight -- the same thing. it speaks to one of the priorities. the never-ending city. or something. i do not remember, exactly, but it is the same basic concept. even if you come here several times over and over, you will not have the same experience. as we do that, enhancing certain things. live stages have big-name bands. headlining the folsom street fair, people are now looking forward to our entertainmen

here up from south san francisco, daly city, san bruno. pretty quiet in the south bay except for morgan hill and gilroy some shower activity. winds gusting to 49 miles an hour at sfo. a wind warning in effect. and oakland, 36 miles an hour. you can see all across the bay area, santa rosa from 41 miles an hour to san jose. we have the wind, we have the rain, we have a flash flood watch through the evening hours. so the heaviest rain will continue to sink to the south of us throughout the morning hours and the wind advisory is up through noon today. we are looking at south winds anywhere from 20 to 30 miles an hour and we are seeing the gusts already up to 50 miles an hour. so here we are on track to see the heaviest rain from the north bay into the central bay within the next hour. so stay with us. we will keep you updated. carolyn. >> thank you, lisa. with all that going on and this series of storms the rivers are rising throughout the bay area. there's a flat warning this morning for the napa river. that's where abc7 news reporter kera clapper joins us live. how is it looking so far? >
